CEL offers precision sheet metal fabrication through the use of laser cutting. Using a computer, our laser cutting machines direct a high power laser at metal. The metal then burns away leaving a precise, high-quality finish. Our laser cutting facility has grown to accommodate short and medium fabrications for sheet metal products. Our two high-powered laser cutting machines offer our customers precision sheet metal fabrication at a reasonable price.
The first laser used in an industrial setting was created in 1965 by the Western Electric Engineering Research Center. These first machines were used to cut diamond dies. By the 1970s, lasers were used to cut titanium for the aerospace industry. Today, lasers are an affordable, efficient method of metal fabrication and is used by both big and small businesses alike.
Precision sheet metal fabrication is easier with a laser. Because there is no cutting edge, the laser never dulls or weakens. Every cut is as good as the last. Warping of metal is also less likely since only small sections of the metal are heated at any one time. Possibly one of the biggest advantages is a laser’s power. Difficult to manipulate, strong metals are easily cut and shaped using a laser cutter. When compared to plasma cutters, lasers offer an advantage in cost of operation. Plasma cutters require more energy and are able to cut through thick metal plates. Laser cutters, however, are quickly approaching the power of plasma cutters. Our two Trumpf laser cutting machines offer our customers the best in precision sheet metal fabrication.
